What changed
Seagate published its first Data Infrastructure Readiness Report on September 14. Recon Analytics surveyed 2,712 enterprise technology decision-makers in seven markets during May and June. According to Seagate, 99% expect AI to increase storage requirements, while 38% consider their organizations fully prepared for the associated long-term data demands.
Why it matters
The gap offers IT operations teams a prompt to compare planned workloads with retention policies, capacity forecasts, and available resources. It supports asking how data will be managed alongside compute investment; it does not determine how much storage any particular organization needs.
What remains unproven
Seagate commissioned the research and sells storage products. Responses express participants’ expectations and assessments, rather than independently measured utilization or future demand. The survey does not establish a universal enterprise storage shortfall.
