What changed
Samsung reported completing a sensing-and-communications trial with Verizon at a soccer fan event in Dallas. A mobile radio installation captured variations in signals from a commercial 5G device. Samsung says its server platform combined virtualized radio and core network functions with a sensing application to produce a crowd-density heatmap.
Why it matters
The experiment tests whether communications infrastructure can also provide venue operators with information about movement. If reliable, that could give organizers another way to identify congested areas without treating every network function as a separate installation.
What remains unproven
This was a field trial, not a commercial 6G deployment. The announcement provides no quantitative accuracy benchmark, false-detection rate or demonstrated reduction in queues. Operational usefulness across other venues remains to be established.
