LaFontaine Automotive Group and UVeye announced plans to deploy automated vehicle inspection systems across more than 40 Michigan locations. The partners describe complimentary drive-through scans using computer vision and deep learning to examine tires, undercarriages and exterior surfaces. The release scheduled the first lane's unveiling at LaFontaine Buick GMC Highland for September 14.
Why it matters
Image-based findings could give drivers and service staff a shared record to discuss, making an inspection less dependent on a verbal description. The value will depend on whether the images and flagged issues are understandable and useful in routine service work.
What remains unproven
The announcement does not verify that every dealership is operating a lane. Its 96% accuracy claim lacks a detailed evaluation protocol in the release, and does not establish that scans detect every mechanical problem.
