The Agentic AI Foundation has opened enrollment for the Model Context Protocol Associate certification. The vendor-neutral credential uses a two-hour, proctored multiple-choice examination. It covers protocol fundamentals, architecture, execution, security and ecosystem uses, and is aligned with the July 28, 2026 MCP specification.
Why it matters
For teams connecting AI agents to external tools, a common syllabus could clarify the knowledge expected of builders. Its coverage of permissions and trust boundaries is relevant to how those integrations are designed, beyond simply getting a tool call to succeed.
What remains unproven
The credential assesses examination performance, not a candidate's deployed system. The announcement supplies no evidence linking certification to fewer implementation failures. Employers would still need practical demonstrations to establish whether someone can build, inspect and maintain a reliable integration.
