- Coverage follows AWS End User Messaging availability.
What changed
AWS End User Messaging now automatically switches traffic to another number in a phone pool when downstream disruption affects SMS delivery. Its September 14 announcement says the service watches delivery delays, failures and changes in conversion, then selects a better-performing path. AWS says existing phone-pool customers receive the feature without taking action, wherever the service is available.
Why it matters
This adds a recovery mechanism inside the managed messaging service. For applications sending time-sensitive codes or delivery updates, reducing dependence on one impaired route could make message handling less fragile.
What remains unproven
The announcement provides no measured delivery improvement, switching threshold or failover timing. Rerouting is therefore a resilience feature, not a guarantee that every message will arrive promptly or successfully.
