What changed
Google released Apigee hybrid 1.17.0 on September 14. The update adds managed Model Context Protocol endpoints so applications can expose APIs as agent tools, using Apigee's routing and authorization. Operators must explicitly enable that capability. The same release adds root certificate-authority rotation, TLS 1.3, forward proxies for AI policies and private endpoints for semantic caching.
Why it matters
These changes put more connection management inside the API platform. Teams evaluating agent access can use existing API controls, while certificate rotation addresses a separate runtime maintenance task.
What remains unproven
Google describes certificate rotation as possible without downtime, but the release notes provide no independent validation. Deployment configuration still matters, and the availability of managed endpoints does not establish that an application's tool permissions are correctly scoped.
