- Phone launches remain prospective.
What changed
MediaTek announced the Dimensity 9600 Pro, a 2nm smartphone processor with eight CPU cores arranged in a 2+3+3 configuration. It supports LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage. The company also introduced the upcoming Dimensity 9600M, with phones using both chips expected this quarter.
Why it matters
For device designers, the memory and storage interfaces provide new options when balancing computing speed against power use. MediaTek claims up to 17% higher single-core performance and 15% higher multi-core performance than the previous generation. These are potentially useful gains, subject to validation in finished products.
What remains unproven
The performance figures come from MediaTek laboratory tests on demonstration devices. They do not establish retail-phone battery life, sustained performance or prices. The announcement describes expected handset launches rather than verified consumer availability.
