- Efficiency claims require application-specific evaluation.
What changed
Eggtronic announced availability of a 140W USB-C Power Delivery reference platform using Renesas high-voltage gallium-nitride transistors. The design combines Eggtronic's EPIC controller with the 700V TP70H150G4LSG device. Eggtronic claims efficiency approaching 96% while keeping component costs comparable to a conventional quasi-resonant flyback converter.
Why it matters
Our analysis: a reference platform gives power-supply engineers a concrete circuit approach to evaluate before designing their own adapters. Combining the control architecture and switching device could help them assess the tradeoff between efficiency and component cost for this power class.
What remains unproven
The reported efficiency and cost comparison come from the supplier. They do not demonstrate equivalent results in every finished adapter, enclosure or operating condition. Reference-design availability also does not establish that consumer products using it have shipped.
