THE ESSENTIALS
  • Verify the regional intersection.
  • Compare the same workload on both configurations.

The announcement

AWS says Lambda Managed Instances now supports Graviton5-powered C9g, C9gd, M9g and M9gd instance types. The feature is offered where both Lambda Managed Instances and the relevant EC2 instances are available. The announcement also makes a manufacturer performance comparison with Graviton4.

Keep the workload in the comparison

A generation label is not a benchmark for your application. Architecture compatibility, memory behavior, concurrency and workload shape should be part of the evaluation. TLB has not run a comparative test of these instance families.

A useful decision record

Write down the current configuration, the proposed configuration and the measurable outcome that would justify a move. Run the same workload and record both latency and throughput, rather than substituting a vendor headline for an acceptance threshold. Treat regional availability as a deployment constraint to verify, not a worldwide promise.
